Current passion: Elder life, i.e., my wife, cooking, the out-of-doors, birthday parties, candle-lit dinners.
Biggest challenge: Not tipping over.
Personal motto: "Stay reasonable."
Doug Foley - Portland, OR
My current passion: My wife, of course. Don’t know if I should allow the word "current."
My biggest challenge: This question. No crisis at the moment, just real life. Oh well. I ’m probably supposed to be on cruise control at my age.
My personal motto: "A normal person is just someone you don’t know very well." Not original—I got it from my favorite philosopher, Red Green.
Daniel McCoy - Montrose, CA
Current passion: My family.
Biggest challenge: Sustainable empire building.
Personal motto: "Embrace dynamics."
Paul Schulz - La Canada, CA
My current passion: Helping the poorest humans better their lives.
My biggest challenge: Breaking out of old habits.
My personal motto: "Compassion. Joy. Love."
Jessica Cushman - La Canada, CA
My current passion: I have a personal dislike of the word "passion," since it has a weird pressure to it. So if I may, I'd like to change mine to "When do you feel most fully engaged and lose your sense of time?" The answer to that, right now, is when my head gets wrapped around a new project or business idea and gets to kick it around with friends and partners. Then I love bringing those things it to life. This is deeply tied to creating and the act of creating, whether that is beauty or connectivity or concepts and strategies. I find tremendous excitement and contentment in that space.
My biggest challenge: Developing a place of gratitude for all that I have, instead of wishing for all I have not.
My personal motto: "Hmmm... More of a goal, really. To bring a feeling of love, healing and joy to everything and everyone I come into contact with, if at all possible. Cuz even jerks need love."
